Under the heading of "same as it ever was", I thought this was worthy of comment.

I came to this link after searching the lyric "blood on the wire". I heard it on an NPR internet show last night and thought, "what is that song, I know that...darnit..."

What I heard was someones' cover of Jackson Browne's "Lives In the Balance". A good one too. So, I search my hard drive and find the original and what do I notice. (OK, time's up). Browne had used South American tribal flutes, drums, other instruments, and rhythms to "silently" support the geographic placement of the song. This other version, whoever it was, used Middle Eastern instruments, etc.

'Nuff said, It's (sadly) the same as it ever was.
