I agree with 'there' blog link :: this country was shaped more by John Locke than by Jesus. The founding fathers were mostly deists and transcendentalists, and historians pointing out that Jefferson altered his commentary on religion after getting pressured by clergy doesn't change that. To say this country was founded by Christians is as questionable as to say that preemptive strike was justified in Iraq by the confirmed existence of WMDs. It's interesting to me that the commandment isn't translated 'thou shalt not lie.' It's translated 'thou shalt not bear false witness'.
