Jim Bald

Now (11.7), after the election, had a take on Maughm's appointment in Samarra, with Chaney as the master and Bush as the servant.

President Bush and Dick Chaney were in Ohio on election day. Chaney sent Bush to the market to buy more votes. In a little while he came back white and trembling. He said: in the crowd outside the precinct station I was jostled by a woman and when I turned and looked, I saw it was Death that had jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture. Lend me your plane and I will fly away from this state and avoid my fate. I will go to Iraq and death will not find me. Chaney lent him Air Force II and he flew to to Samarra, near Baghdad. Then Chaney went down to the polling place and he saw Death standing in crowd waiting to vote and said to her, why did you make a threatening gesture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, Death replied, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Ohio for I have an appointment with him tonight in Samarra.
